Wheeler Chapel adds parking lot lighting and
upgrades tile flooring in two rooms.

3/1/2008 - The Wheeler Chapel Trust is pleased to announce several safety
related improvements to the building and grounds that were funded largely by a
grant from the Ella Anderson.
First, owing to an extremely old flooring system which was a composite tiling,
the Trust elected to replace the flooring in the kitchen and bathroom with a
durable VCT tile. Many of the tiles were lifting and the uneven surface made for
growing tripping hazards. Prior to the installation of the new tiling a thin
layer of plywood was installed to make a smooth and durable subsurface for the
new tile to be installed upon. Our thanks to Stan's Carpet and Vinyl of
Merrimack for their work.
The second set of improvements all involve electrical work which was mostly
lighting additions. Before speaking to the lighting we made a minor but valuable
addition of an electrical outlet in the hallway between the All Purpose Room and
the bathroom. This will make things like vacuuming a lot more convenient and
reduce the need for running cords across doorways for electrical needs in that
hallway.
The lighting related portions of the project involve adding lighting in two
areas where they did not exist previously. The first area is in the attic. A
switch just inside the attic doorway operates the light in the attic stairway.
Because of the stairway's distance from any sources of light, this was a
dangerous area at anytime of day. At the top of the stairs is a motion detector
that activates two fixtures of fluorescent lighting that illuminate the attic
expanse. This is particularly important at night as there are large areas that
have no flooring and only the plaster and lathing of the first floor ceiling
between the attic and the floor below.
Last and certainly not least are two fixtures of high intensity lighting for the
parking area on the south side of the chapel. The new fixtures provide ample
lighting for that entire area which will add to the safety of folks using the
building during night time hours. Except for the longest days at the height of
summer there are groups that benefit from this upgrade every week during the
rest of the year. We thank Custom Electric of Merrimack for their quality work
in all of these electrical related upgrades.
